We’re in the process of moving Cara’s blog to a new platform. (If you want to read more about it, this link will tell you the full story.) Soon all the links to the blog will point to the new blog, but we’re still in the process of updating.
In the meantime, if you come online to visit the blog, please check out here:
You’ll see an updated design, but all the content is the same. The BIGGEST DIFFERENCE, however, is here by popular demand - you will now be able to leave comments. And we hope you do!
We just signed up this blog to be a part of Blog Action Day 2008. There’s more about the program here, if you’re interested, but basically it’s a day when thousands of blog writers all post about the same topic. Last year the topic was the environment, and more than 20,000 blogs participated. This year, we’ll be talking about poverty. If you have a blog, join in! Otherwise, stay tuned for Blog Action Day 2008 on October 15.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, this blog has recently been on a bit of a hiatus. I apologize to all of you who have been wondering what’s going on, where Cara Austin is, etc. I’ve been enjoying some vacations and trying to get ready to launch my first big Web site with Pure Incubation, so I took a short summer break from this blog. I’m hoping that this post will be the start of me blogging regularly here again. Starting with the info from the New England Music Festival that I promised a month ago….!
I have made my first big mistake as an Internet-focused record label. I’m sure that there will be plenty more, but this is my first.
I started this blog for Cara Austin using a blog tool called “Tumblr.”
If you’re at http://blog.caraaustin.com, you’re using Tumblr right now. Tumblr is AWESOME in the way that it looks, how easy it is to set up, and the way that it lets you create posts. But the problem with Tumblr is that search engines (like Google) aren’t really picking up the posts that I make here and listing them. So if random people search for terms like “Most awesome female rockstar ever” in Google, they’re not finding Cara Austin.
This is a problem, don’t you think?
So I’m going to make a move. It will likely take a month or so to transition off of Tumblr to a different blogging platform, but I’ll let you know when it happens. Stay tuned.
So we’ve hit Day 19 of the Cara Austin Blog Project, and hopefully you’re all enjoying the blog so far. I just wanted to take a minute to answer some quick questions that we have been getting about how the blog works.
Second, if you do get updates via email, be warned that you will be getting information at the end of the day. So, for example, I am writing this post at 4:56pm on Tuesday. Anyone who is subscribed to the newsletter updates will get this post sent to them in an email message sometime in the middle of the night tonight – and will likely read it tomorrow morning. This means that if I post anything really timely (like “Come see Cara Austin tonight”) you’ll be reading about it after the event is over. I’ll try not to do this – I’M VERY SORRY that happened yesterday for all of you who missed the show.
If this is the first time that you’ve landed at Cara’s blog – welcome! We’re really glad that you’re here.
Here are some instructions for how you can follow what’s going on with Cara Austin:
1)Subscribe to the feed via email. By doing this, you’ll get a daily email with all the updates that were posted to this blog for that day. If there are no updates, you’ll get no email. You can unsubscribe at any time. Click the link below to enter your email address to subscribe.
2) Subscribe to the feed via RSS. If you don’t know what RSS is, then I would recommend using the email subscription option above. If you want to know what it is, you can read this article).
3) How to read from the beginning. You’ll see by the dates that the posts of this blog are listed so that the most recent post is at the top. If you want to go to the beginning of the blog and start reading there, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, and click “Next” (Keep doing that) until you get to the post with the date “March 13, 2008.”
4) Questions or comments. If you have anything to tell Cara or me about this blog, please just send an email to management@caraaustin.com. This is also a good place to send questions or issues that you might be having
Well, day 12 of the blog, and we are getting ready to launch it to the world. Before we could launch, though, we had to give it its own fabulous domain name. For those of you who don’t know what a domain name is – it’s the URL or Website address - in this case: http://blog.caraaustin.com. Now that the URL is set, you can use it anytime to reach this blog and read up on every little thing Cara Austin and Fat J Records have been up to. Very exciting, I know.
We’re just making the final tweaks to the Website so that there are links from the site to the blog, and then we’ll make the announcement.
It’s amazing how fun and challenging getting everything set up has been. And by everything, I mean everything. The website, pressing the CD, getting up on iTunes to sell, finding distribution channels, just to name a few things - there is a lot of behind-the-scenes that goes into the music business, stuff I had no idea about. But it’s all fun, exciting and definitely interesting.
And you can follow it all here on this blog, lucky for you! And most of all, lucky for us! Because without fans, we’d be nowhere.
So I finally took the plunge and showed Cara the site. I was nervous. She is picky and especially so when it’s something about her. I must have given her 100 disclaimers before sending her the link…”It’s not FINAL yet. It isn’t THAT GOOD yet. You might not like parts of it, but give it a try. You know I am just doing it really fast, right” I mean, I probably made her think that it was going to be totally embarrassing and she was going to have to fire me and Fat J Records on the spot. But something surprising happened.
She liked it.
I am relieved. Now I just hope that all of YOU like it, too!
