Margaret Becker at the New England Arts Festival

post

The night before Cara played at The New England Arts Festival, we went up early to catch the Margaret Becker concert. She did an acoustic set to raise money for a school up in Maine. The concert was amazing. We were in about the second or third row and it practically felt like we were on stage. This was my favorite song that she did – Just Come In. Cara told me that this song was one of her favorites, as well, and held a lot of meaning for her from years ago when she first heard it. (Please forgive the poor videography!)

30-second interview

post

This is a short 30-second video interview that I did with Cara before the New England Arts Festival started. We talk about her upcoming performance, and her views on Margaret Becker’s performance the night before.

Cara’s performance of “Come to Me”

post

This is Cara’s performance of “Come to Me” at the New England Arts Festival in Maine in June 2008. They specifically requested that she play this song, you won’t usually hear Cara include this one in her regular set.

Recap

post

The weekend was awesome! Cara played great, the festival was really fun and Margaret Becker was amazing. The only downside is that I am sick and got both Cara and Chris sick, too. The good news is that Cara’s voice held up, and her performance was great. (She didn’t get her “man voice” until the next day.) I’ll post the video and more photos later this week when I’m feeling better, but I wanted everyone to know how great it went.

Back from Ireland and the Festival’s THIS WEEKEND

post

Sorry for the lag in blog posting, it’s been a tough week trying to get back to regular work after my vacation (which was great). But it’s time for me to focus because this weekend is the Arts Festival in Maine – Cara and I are going to hit the road to head up there tomorrow around 3pm. If you can make it, we would both love to see you there, and if not, never fear – there will be video and pictures, coming soon.

It’s pretty cool that Cara is on the same playlist as Margaret Becker

Back and then gone again

post

I’m back! That’s right, after a three week hiatus (during which Cara was gone and then submitting posts about her trip) I’m back to the blog again. Although I’m back to tell you that I’m leaving…just for a week, for a vacation. And then I’ll be back for real. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some information on an upcoming event that’s very exciting – the New England Arts Festival, where Cara will be playing at the end of June.

See you in a week!

June 28th – Live at the New England Arts Festival

post

I told you awhile back that I submitted an application to the New England Arts Festival - Cara heard from them today and she’s in! I guess that one of the people who is putting on the show listened to the CD and had a favorite song, so Cara will definitely perform that one, although she has no idea what song it is. We’re trying to guess which one it will be (Cara is guessing Arise, I think Lay it Down) but we’ll have to see. It should be a great event, and a trip up to the Portland, ME, area is always fun.

New England Arts Festival

post

Today I sent in Cara’s application to play at the New England Arts Festival. It’s going to be in Maine, in June. The coolest thing about this event – and really the reason that I think Cara wants to play there – is that Margaret Becker is the headliner for the event. Cara has really been into Margaret Becker’s music at times in the past – mostly (I think) because she’s such an amazing songwriter, and her lyrics are unbelievable.

A couple of years back, Cara gave her friend Beth Rice* tickets to go see Margaret Becker, and Beth got Cara a really cool signed copy of Margaret Becker’s book. Does Cara still have that book? Hmmmm….doubtful, because Cara is notoriously bad about keeping books. But that one just might have been meaningful enough to keep.

*Beth Rice is the same “Beth Rice” referenced in Cara’s song “In Heaven.”
