Cara Austin live at Club Passim

post

This video is one that I’ve been holding onto for way too long without sharing. This is from earlier this year when Cara played at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. At the time, I provided some quotes and history about the venue, which are worth a read.

This was a really cool night watching Cara play, and although the videographer (me) wasn’t very good, the music was great. Enjoy!

Passim recap (Day 5 of the blog project)

post

So last night was the Club Passim show. First of all, it was packed. This place really is one of the most famous places in the northeast – if not the most famous place – for musicians to play. There were people there from Colorado, Germany, Connecticut, South Carolina…and each of them said how they couldn’t believe that they were finally playing there because it was so famous.

Cara had an amazing show. She did two songs – Send Me & Lay It Down. I got really good videos of both songs, so I’ll post those sometime in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

The most surprising event of the night was that Jenny Chang showed up! Jenny is a friend of ours, she did the photography for the cover, as well as the layout and design. She had her camera with her – lucky for us – so hopefully I’ll be posting some amazing photos that she took soon, too.

Club Passim History

post

This link has lots of interesting information about this venue, including the story about Joan Baez getting her start here, Bob Dylan playing between acts, and Bruce Springsteen getting turned down for a gig here. Yikes! I am definitely not going to show Cara this stuff before tonight – it’s even making me nervous.

A basement in Harvard Square

post

“It’s hard to believe that thousands of musicians consider playing in a room no larger than 30’ x 40’ that intimately seats 125 in a basement in Harvard Square as “making it.” But they do, because this brick-floored subterranean locale is Club Passim, one of the nation’s legendary cultural icons and epicenter of great folk and acoustic music. A place where musicians like Joan Baez, Tom Rush, Jackie Washington, Peter Wolf, Taj Mahal, Patty Larkin, Goeff & Maria Muldaur, Shawn Colvin, and Suzanne Vega cut their musical teeth before playing larger venues.”

Cara Austin – tonight at Club Passim

post

Cara’s going to be playing tonight at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. Oddly, even though I went to college in Cambridge and spent many evenings across the street from Club Passim at The Border Cafe, I have never been to this music venue, so I’m personally very excited to check it out. My understanding is that it is a really intimite venue, and is where a lot of music legends got their start, so that makes it even cooler that Cara is playing there tonight.
